IFP, ANC march to court for shooting

Mxolisi Nxumalo made his second court appearance this morning.

Hundreds of IFP and ANC supports marched from Lindelani to the KwaDukuza court this morning for the appearance of the alleged elections shooter.

In the only violent incident reported in the province, ANC volunteer Thando Nuh Mhlongo was shot dead outside a polling station in Lindelani on May 7, in full view of ANC and IFP members.
Mhlongo, a municipal street sweeper, was standing near an information table when she was shot, allegedly by Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) member Mxolisi Nxumalo (28).

IFP member S’thembiso Xulu then claimed he had been the target of the Lindelani shooting, saying he narrowly escaped with his life.

Tensions flared last Monday, when Nxumalo made his first appearance in connection with Mhlongo’s murder. Today once again the crowds danced, armed with sticks and golf clubs.

The trial has been moved to the Durban regional court.
