Show jumping at Oaklands
Riders took part in a show jumping training session at Oaklands Equestrian Estate in Umhlali.
Oaklands Equestrian Estate in Umhlali hosted a training jumping show for young and old riders on Saturday May 24.
The estate has a modern stable yard with its own beautiful cafe and restaurant. Situated on the top of a hill over looking Umhlali and Salt Rock with 360 degree views, Oaklands proved a lovely venue for a morning out. There was a fun and relaxing atmosphere with giant cappuccinos and food being served and music playing all day.
The show gave riders an opportunity to compete in jumping with different height classes, from 30cm to 1.10 metres. In a training show the rules are not too strict, allowing riders to make mistakes and to try again, preparing them for future competitions.
During an interval Allison Stephenson performed a teaching demonstration of Parelli natural horsemanship training techniques. Parelli teaches the rider to communicate with the horse in ‘horse language’ through which they form a mutually trusting relationship. This allows riders to lead their horses without much pressure or force and having their horse follow willingly.
