Salt Rock residents make ‘Happy’ video

First Ballito, now Salties!

Two weeks after the launch of ‘We are Happy in Ballito’, Salt Rock resident have produced their own version of the Pharrell Williams phenomenon.

‘We are Happy in Salt Rock’ was released on YouTube on May 31 and as of midday on Tuesday the video had 1, 621 views. Salt Rock resident Andrew Bigley said they were inspired by the success of the Ballito video.

“We felt Salt Rock had its own unique identity that also needed to be represented,” said Bigley.

He issued a request on the Salt Rock WhatsApp group for willing participators to submit their footage.

The result was a fun montage of amateur filming that does credit to the seaside town.

The video showcases locals dancing at well known places around the town.

‘Happy’ is a song performed by American singer and producer Pharrell Williams from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack album. It was released on November 21, last year.

To coincide with the single release, the website 24hoursofhappy.com was launched featuring a visual presentation of ‘Happy’ advertised as being “the world’s first 24 hour music video”. The video consists of the four-minute song repeated with various people dancing around Los Angeles and miming along.

The original video spawned many cover videos on YouTube in which people from different cities worldwide dance to the song. To date more than 1,500 videos had been created.
