Help James find a bone marrow match

The Sunflower Fund will be having a Donor Drive this Sunday, June 22, at the Ballito Junction shopping centre from 9am to 4pm. The Donor Drive is to help find matches for those diagnosed with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders to receive bone marrow transplants. Ballito’s twenty-month-old James Read has a rare form of Leukemia that is only treatable through a bone marrow transplant. On June 10, numerous Ballito resident so joined the Donor Drive for little James by registering with the Sunflower Fund and having their blood tested.For this, the family and friends of James Read thank you. It does only take one to be a match. James is not the only one looking for a donor match. Among others, 12 year old Robbie Eddles , 19 year old Tashnika Rambali and 36 year old Sharleigh Wilkins from Durban, are also searching for a donor match. If you would like to join please firstly read all the information on the Sunflower Fund website. The South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) is in desperate need of donors from all ethnic groups and mixed ethnic backgrounds. All people who are interested in becoming a donor must register before the drive by calling the Sunflower Fund on 0800 12 10 82 before close of business on Thursday, June 19. They will ask you some questions to ensure you are illegible to donate and inform you of what is required should you be a match. Then bring along your registration forms on Sunday and you will give two samples of blood at the drive to be tested. The public will also have the opportunity to donate blood.
