Keeping warm in style with Red Cap

2756 designer blankets!

This winter far fewer children will suffer from the cold in KwaDukuza, thanks to a project by Mr Price Home and the Mr Price Red Cap Foundation. The RCF’s Design Doing Good initiative came to a warm, emotional end at the Inkanyezi Créche in Shakaville on Friday, where hundreds of children from 52 crèches were each presented with stylish blankets. The project was started four years ago when five of South Africa’s best designers – Mia Widlake, Amanda du Plessis, Michele Aubourg, Michael Chandler and Renee Rossouw – created a limited edition range of bright, plush blankets. Ten percent of every purchased blanket went into buying polar fleece blankets for the crèches, all part of the Maqhawe Early Childhood Development (ECD) Association. At the handover Titasi Bolani from the education department could not thank Mr Price enough. “These blankets will come in very handy for our children and teachers,” she said. Mr Price Home marketing director Kerry Strauss said the handover was the highlight of a stunning project. “This was an opportunity to take what we have – talent and design – and combine them to make someone happy. Here’s to a warm winter.” Mr Price Group sustainability manager Natasja Ambrosio said the investment had been made in a key area. “Seeing these little people wrap themselves in the blankets they may not have had otherwise, makes me emotional. I have goosebumps!” The children and teachers thanked Mr Price the best way they know how, by parading around the crèche singing and dancing with their blankets.
