“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead,” – Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Mandela was a great man, this – the whole world knows.
When he passed away on December 5 last year, that very world stopped in recognition of sheer selflessness of this man who gave his life to give others a chance to realise a dream.
The question many asked then, and still continue to ask, is “how can we repay Madiba for what he did for us?”
Today, on International Mandela Day, you have a chance to make a difference the way our beloved Tata did.
The United Nations launched the day in 2009, inspired by Madiba’s words: “it’s in your hands now”.
In celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy and the 67 years he gave to the world, fighting for human rights and dignity, you are encouraged to spend 67 minutes in community service.
Your contribution does not have to be enormous; do anything that you feel would make the world a happier, warmer place for just a little more than an hour.
Make someone a sandwich, hand out hugs, sweep your street…anything.
Make Madiba proud, on the first Mandela Day since his death.
Happy Mandela Day!
