#Letter: Salt Rock woman turns pothole frustration into action
Two hundred rand, a willing heart and a helping hand, and suddenly the road is a little safer for everyone who travels it
Salt Rock’s Candice Rogers writes:
Sometimes the greatest acts of kindness come from ordinary people who look at a problem and decide not to wait.
Last week, a woman named Di found herself in the middle of a challenge many of us know all too well. Salt Rock’s roads took their toll and she lost two tyres to the giant potholes that scar our streets.
Rather than simply lament the damage and drive on, Di rolled up her sleeves. Together with her faithful helper Bester, she set about filling in the holes that had been causing so much trouble for drivers in the area.
Di said the whole effort cost her less than R200. Two hundred rand, a willing heart and a helping hand, and suddenly the road is a little safer for everyone who travels it, from the school run to the early morning commute.
Di, Bester, thank you. Your initiative reminds us that community is built one act of care at a time. You didn’t wait for permission. You saw a need and you met it with love.
To everyone in Salt Rock: let’s take a moment to notice the good people around us. Let’s support one another, celebrate the quiet heroes, and remember that when we work together, even the biggest potholes can be filled.
