The newly revamped Dog Box charity shop in Ballito had a cocktail function on Thursday, February 19 to thank Checkers and the Storequip Group, including KK Shelving, for their efforts in the store makeover.
The shop sells donated items to raise funds for the Durban and Coast SPCA Dolphin Coast branch.
“Although we seem to bring in a fair amount each month it is not sufficient to cover rental, inspectors’ wages, vehicles, vet fees and so forth, hence we have to rely on Durban to subsidise us,” said volunteer convener Yvonne Hands.
Checkers divisional director, Willem Hunlun, announced a R5 000 dog food donation at the function for which the branch was extremely grateful.
She went on to say that they are in desperate need of committed volunteers to help out in the shop.
Shifts are weekdays from 10am to 1pm and 1pm to 4pm and Saturdays from 9am to 12am.
“Without the community continuing to support us with their great donations we would not be in a position to run the shop, as well as the volunteers who give their time so willingly every week to do their shifts,” said Hands.
Anyone who is interested in doing their bit for animals in need can contact Yvonne Hands on 082 780 1147.
