Third dagga plantation found in Tongaat

Reaction Unit South Africa destroys over 100 fully grown dagga trees.

Over 100 fully grown dagga plants were recovered by members of the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) in Esenembe near upper Tongaat this week.

The plantation was discovered after RUSA reaction officer Denis Kleynhans received information from the public of a dagga plantation being cultivated in Esenembe.

The officer acting on the tip off proceeded to a mealie plantation near a farm workers compound residence and found the plantation consisting of over 100 huge dagga trees.

No arrest were made and the plants were removed and destroyed.

This is the third plantation discovered in the area in the past few weeks with a total of over 300 trees recovered by RUSA.

Head of RUSA, Prem Balram confirmed the recovery and said that the huge plants were definitely cultivated as they were planted in neat rows, were pruned and seemed to be fertilized and watered.

Balram said reaction officers made several trips with a bakkie to transport the weed to a location to be destroyed.
