“Unfinished houses are a threat to us”

Unfinished houses and overgrown bushes a concern for residents.

Residents of Jasmine Street in Shakaskraal are worried about a blocked water stream and overgrown bushes.

They are also concerned about the four half-built houses that residents claim are becoming a hiding place for criminals.

DA councillor Faith Govender said she spoke with KwaDukuza municipality parks and gardens manager Che Gopi in January.

“When it is raining the water will flow into the road and it is dangerous for drivers who use the road. The bushes and the half built houses are a threat to our safety in this area,” said Govender.

According to KwaDukuza spokesperson Sifiso Zulu, Gopi has not received any recent complaints.

He said previous complaints of this nature have been dealt with.

“The relevant departments will investigate the cause of the situation and take corrective action,” said Zulu.

With overgrown properties, Zulu said that when a complaint is received they serve a notice to the owner to clear the area.

This is done once a year.
