Salt Rock father launches book inspired by life lessons for his daughters

Dad's 5 Rules is built around five phrases he often repeated to his daughters, Ela, Raina and Anaya - be brave, be safe, be calm, don't panic and have some fun.

A simple set of life lessons shared with his three daughters inspired Salt Rock father Devan Moodley’s new book, Dad’s 5 Rules.

Moodley, a businessman and author with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, officially launched the book at Zimbali Oasis on June 20. Dad’s 5 Rules is built around five phrases he often repeated to his daughters, Ela, Raina and Anaya – be brave, be safe, be calm, don’t panic and have some fun.

“Over time, I realised these weren’t just phrases. They had become the operating system of our family,” said Moodley.

Published by Ballito-based KREST House, Dad’s 5 Rules combines personal stories, practical wisdom and lessons drawn from family life, adventure and Moodley’s career helping families navigate major life decisions. It also charts his own journey from shy child with a stutter to business leader and public speaker.

“The five rules aren’t designed to solve every problem. They’re designed to help families navigate life’s challenges with confidence, resilience and perspective,” he said.

“This isn’t a parenting book written by someone who claims to have all the answers. It’s written by a dad who is still learning.”

Dad’s 5 Rules is available from kresthouse.co.za for R375.
