Neighbour saves dogs from burning house

A quick-thinking reaction from a neighbour saved two dogs from a burning house.

On Sunday afternoon a neighbour did not think twice to try and save two dogs that were stuck inside a burning house in Salt Rock.

Just after 12pm, a man walking down Dunkirk Road alerted neighbour Michael Fann of smoke coming from inside the house next door.

Fann used his own hosepipe to try and control the blaze that started in the kitchen until the KwaDukuza Fire Department arrived.

They used a crowbar to open up a window and Fann jumped in to rescue the two dogs that were locked inside the home at the time of the fire.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue said the dogs were not injured in the fire.

“No one was in the house and the dogs did not suffer any injuries,” said Herbst.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and will be investigated.
