Ballito house raided for drugs

Police arrest 23 suspects for dealing in drugs.

The police cracked a heroin drug syndicate over the weekend on the North Coast when 23 suspects were arrested aged between 19 and 36 and heroin with a street value of R500 000 was recovered.

An integrated operation by SAPS Umhlali, Chatsworth Crime Intelligence, Shongweni K9 Unit, Hawks and the KwaDukuza Cluster unit resulted in the arrest.

Police made the breakthrough following investigations into suspicious activities at a house in Ballito which was used for drug related activities.

On arrival at the house police found six female occupants who were locked inside as well as a number of empty straws and five sealing machines.

Further investigations led them to a house in La Lucia where they found 23 occupants inside.

Police recovered 20 000 straws filled with heroin as well as six sealers in the second house.

All 23 of the suspects were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs.

They appeared at the Durban Magistrates Court yesterday.
