Final straight for Ballito Drive upgrade
Mostly aesthetic work that is being done on the P445.
In stark contrast to what road users had to cope with at the foot of the 2014 festive season, the Ballito Drive upgrade is on the brink of completion.
Street lights are on, lines have been painted, traffic lights are functional and at least two to three lanes are open everywhere, making for smooth traffic flow in and out of town. In the final straight of construction, all that needs to be done is the laying of brick paving on the pedestrian walkways.
“We were initially going to tar the walkways but decided to lay brick paving instead because it will look better,” said SMEC Engineering’s Dave Duke.
Duke said laying brick paving took a little longer but would be worth the wait in the end. He said they were mostly busy with aesthetic work and would be finished tidying up in a couple of weeks.
