Brothers attacked on farm near Mandeni

One dead and one critical after being ambushed by a group of men.

One man was shot dead and another critically injured in a farm attack on Tuesday night near Mandeni.

Brothers Peter and Ian Johnson returned from the shooting range at around 5.30pm when they were ambushed by an unknown number of assailants on their farm between Inyoni and Gingindlovu.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said Peter Johnson was shot in the chest and declared dead on the scene.

Ian Johnson was shot in the face, arm and foot and is being operated on this morning at Victoria Hospital in Tongaat.

The bullet entered Ian’s face below the left ear and exited at the lower right side of his face.

The assailants escaped with five firearms and three rifles.

Mandeni Business Against Crime manager, Steve Fox said it is believed that the motive for the attack was the theft of the firearms.

Fox said that since Friday there has been a hijacking, an attempted armed robbery, theft of one car and three burglaries in the Mandeni area.
