Bus plunges down embankment

Community residents set bus on fire.

A bus plunged down a ten metre embankment in Tongaat after its brakes allegedly failed on Monday afternoon.

Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue said the bus was coming down Hambanathi District Road when the accident happened.

“IPSS Medical Rescue and EMRS transported 12 patients to hospital,” said Herbst.

He said the community was very hostile towards emergency services and set alight the bus.

“Community residents did not want the Tongaat Fire Department to assist with the fire,” said Herbst.
