Marching against child abuse

The Breakthrough Community Centre takes a stand against child abuse.

The Breakthrough Community Centre in Etete recently hosted a Child Protection Day programme on Saturday, June 6 to make their voices heard against child abuse.

The day started off with each child having a green ribbon painted on their faces and then they were addressed by the deputy mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality, Cllr Dolly Govender.

Learners from local schools and members of the Kidz Club and government officials then proceeded to march through the community of Etete.

Stops were made at strategic places in the community where officials from various departments spoke strongly against child abuse and upholding the rights and dignity of children.

The day concluded with a treat consisting of sandwiches, iced lollies, chips and lollipops for each child together with an educational programme with entertainment from clowns, a magic trick to illustrate how we can break the cycle of abuse and a hilarious and inspiring puppet show.

Mike Pitso, manager of the department of social development commended the Breakthrough Centre team for their ongoing involvement in ensuring a brighter future for children in Etete.
