Fire at church house in Ballito

No one was home at the time of the fire.

A fire started at a house in Townsend Road, Ballito around midday Tuesday, but luckily no one was injured in the blaze.

The house belongs to the All Saints Catholic Church and Reverend Father Nkosinathi Ngcobo was not at home when the fire started.

Chuch secretary, Wendy Risi said Chubb Security Company called her when the house alarm went off and at first she assumed it must have been some monkeys that got into the house.

But when she saw the flames she called the KwaDukuza Fire Department.

With the help of an assistant they put out the fire before the fire department arrived.

One bedroom was destroyed in the blaze and Risi suspects a faulty air-conditioner may have been the cause, but firefighters said it is too early to tell.

The house was covered in ashes from the fire.
