Willard’s mysterious sand circles
Resident captured these strange looking patterns on the beach.
An artistic phenomenon as mysterious as it is beautiful was recently sighted on Ballito’s Willard Beach as nine perfectly geometric circles were found just between the high tide mark and the shoreline on the afternoon of May 4.
After making the discovery, Lynne Raath – a Ballito resident of 23 years, said she was curious as to whether anyone else has seen them and if there is an explanation for their appearance on the beach.
“The interesting thing is that there were no human footprints anywhere near the circles, so I was wondering how these perfect shapes could have appeared there and who is behind such beautiful designs,” said Raath.
Raath said the circles were each about one metre in diameter and that they all followed the same pattern.
Although now over a month ago, if Ballito is host to its very own ‘Beach-Banksy’ it would be great to see more delicate works of art in the sand to decorate and intrigue residents and tourists alike.
