UKZN and MIT students visit Ilembe Chamber

Students get to know the business behind the Ilembe Chamber.

The Ilembe Chamber of Commerce recently hosted six students from UKZN and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as part of UKZN’s Create Programme.

The students spent 10 days in the Ilembe District and were afforded the opportunity to work with the Chamber on a business related assignment.

They assisted the Chamber by exploring models for developing and supporting entrepreneur programmes in schools within the district.

The study focused on international best practice, existing programmes in Ilembe schools and the resource requirements for the running of such programs.

Schools that participated in the study included Darnell Primary, Enkukhwini Primary (Groutville), Ashton Secondary, Umhali Preparatory, Shakaskraal Secondary, Nombika Secondary (Ndwedwe), ML Sultan Secondary (KwaDukuza) and Vukile High School (Maphumulo).

The students presented their findings to representatives from a wide range of stakeholders on Wednesday, June 24.
