Mother killed, baby injured in Maphumulo
Pedestrian accident on R74 claims mother's life.
A young woman and her baby was hit by a motor vehicle on the R74 in Maphumulo on Wednesday afternoon.
KZN Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Robert McKenzie said paramedics arrived to find the woman, estimated to be 20 years old, lying several metres away from the point of impact and sadly passed away.
Her seven-week-old baby, who had been wrapped in several blankets, was protected from some of the forces from the crash.
A local store owner rushed the baby to the local clinic where KZN EMS paramedics then proceeded to transport the baby to hospital.
He had sustained serious injuries.
The exact circumstances resulting in the crash are not known and will be investigated by the police.
