Mayor sends condolences to families of rail carnage victims

KZN department of transport and officials visit the accident scene.

KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has extended words of condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragic taxi crash in Shaka’s Head on Monday, August 17.

“We are very saddened to learn of the sudden death of sixteen people in the area. We have come to learn that most of the victims depart at their most youthful and productive ages of their lives and this causes us even more grief,” said Mthembu.

The victims were travelling in a taxi from Ballito when it plunged down the embankment at the N2 Shaka’s Head offramp and landed over the railway and got ran over by a train.

A total of sixteen people have died.

The MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, Willies Mchunu, has instructed that the matter be investigated in full to determine the cause of the accident.
