Four arrested for suspected stolen cigarettes
Cigarettes to the value of R250 000 recovered.
Umhlali SAPS and the K9 unit arrested four people between the age of 24 and 48 for suspected stolen cigarettes.
The Umhlali Task Team received a report that a vehicle travelling from Empangeni towards Durban was carrying a load of stolen cigarettes.
A vehicle carrying cigarettes was allegedly robbed at Ngwelezane near Empangeni and the stolen cartons of cigarettes were loaded into a sedan.
Police waited for the suspects at the Umvoti Toll Plaza and when the suspects spotted police they fled.
A car chase ensued and the vehicle was caught at the Tongaat Toll Plaza.
Cigarettes to the value of R250 000 was recovered.
The four suspects were arrested for possession of goods suspected to be stolen and will appear at the Umhlali Magistrates Court later today.
