Ballito is home to the fairy godmother of rejected authors and unpublished treasures.
The self-proclaimed author and publisher, Rudi van Wyk, started her latest business venture to help authors and poets in our area after she experienced rejection herself.
“I did not take it well when two of my books were rejected by publishers a few years ago, so I thought if they do not want to publish my books, I will publish them myself,” said the sweet, slightly eccentric Van Wyk.
She said it is incredibly difficult and expensive to have your book published, which is why she had to look for an alternative, cost effective method.
Electronic books were the perfect solution and so Shefa Publishing was born last month and Van Wyk started a website selling e-books.
“We have such amazing writers right here in our community, whose work would never have been read by the public if it were not for Shefa E-Books.”
She said Shefa means blessing, which is what she aims to do with her website.
“It is so difficult to write and be inspired without a support group. I would like to boost people’s self esteem and believe in their work to encourage them to continue writing.”
Already, she has three Ballito-based authors on the website.
“Marius Pretorius, Louis Nel and Piet Steenkamp are fantastic authors and have written a variety of books.”
