Orphan Fund quarterly check
The Orphan Fund raised a grand total of R65 046 during the recent quarter.
The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund has raised a grand total of R65 046 during the recent quarter and helped more than 1200 children.
The Orphan Fund committee met on October 14 to make the fund’s quarterly allocations.
The money raised (and distributed) during the months August through to October is reflected in the table.
The bulk of the money is given in the form of food vouchers for food parcels to child headed households and orphan feeding schemes.
These include Usizo and St Phillips in Shakaville, Summerhill in Etete, Nkobongo Resource Centre, Vision 153 in Groutville and Smile with Us in Frasers.
It is difficult to quantify the exact numbers of children who are helped by the Orphan Fund, but it is in the region of 1200.
Much of the money this quarter was raised through the very successful Bass Competition at Rain Farm on Heritage Day.
Despite the drought, this annual family friendly event attracted many father son combinations with over 80 keen fishermen fishing for the elusive tagged fish.
The R5,000 tagged bass spotted in the top of the dam, successfully evaded capture, free to swim another day, but lots of fish were caught and a great day was had by all.
Over R11,000 was raised for the Orphan Fund.
The next major fund raising event is the Ballito Open Golf Day to be held at the Umhlali Country Club between Christmas and New Year on December 28.
This popular golf day is organised annually by Malcolm Mann and attracts a regular field of locals and holiday makers.

The response of the public to our appeals for support for the orphans of our area is generous and on behalf of the children the fund helps, heartfelt thanks.
Many people have generated a regular stop order against their bank account in favour of the Orphan Fund.

The Orphan Fund is registered as a non-profit organization and has also been approved by the Receiver of Revenue for tax exemption.
This means that donors can receive a tax deduction on donations made.
