Aunt jailed for raping child

The woman was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

On Tuesday Maphumulo Regional Court sentenced a 44-year-old woman to 15 years imprisonment for the rape of her nephew last December.

On the evening of December 20, 2014, the 13-year-old boy was at home with his mother when his aunt requested he escort her home because it was late.

He did not return home and the next day  he came home crying, saying that the aunt had raped him

A case of rape was opened at Maphumulo SAPS.

The KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit took over the investigation and the accused was arrested.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, welcomed the sentence.

“As we are heading to the 16 Days of Activism, it is so shamefully that the person who should be protecting the boy is the one who abused him. We hope this sentence will send a strong message to other sexual predators who prey for the defenseless women and children.”
