A man was beaten to death and four others were stabbed at midnight on New Year’s Day in Ekunqobeni area in Maphumulo.
It is alleged that a group of guys were partying in the street when an argument broke out between Nkululeko Mtetwa (25) and another man.
Mtetwa reportedly pulled out a gun and shot the man in his leg.
The group of guys started to fight, resulting in four men being taken to hospital with stab wounds.
Mtetwa was beaten to death by the group and his gun was stolen.
According to Maphumulo SAPS station commander Nicholas Mchunu, five people were arrested in connection with Mtetwa’s death.
“The gun was later recovered and the five men all appeared at the Maphumulo magistrate court on Monday,” said Mchunu.
