Ladies, there’s a new gynae in town

Going to the gynae is no one’s favourite activity, but Alberlito Netcare Hospital’s new obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Leneque Lindeque promises to make it a pleasant one.

Born in Johannesburg and bred in Durban, the fully bilingual Dr Lindeque excelled in sport, academics and culture, but knew that medicine was her calling.

“Being a gynaecologist is a lifestyle calling, not a job. It always made sense to me to do gynaecology, it just came naturally,” said Dr Lindeque, who studied at the University of Stellenbosch.

After her studies, she was an intern at McCord Hospital in Durban.

“I had the overseas itch and went to New Zealand for a year to work in a hospital. A month in, I realised I wanted to specialise.”

She did and she spent some time in Amsterdam, where she went for endoscopic surgery training.

“Being a woman is difficult when everything goes right – first menstruation, pregnancy and so on. My aim is to try ease the events of a woman’s life,” said Dr Lindeque, who is the proud mother of a three-year-old boy, Nico.

“Spreading your legs for a stranger is not easy. I want my care to be exceptional and my patients to feel comfortable.”

Her caring, charming personality and great sense of humour also helps to break the ice quickly.

When walking into her practice, it is obvious that she has artistic flair which comes from her late father, famous cartoon artist Len Lindeque of Len se Pen. She is an avid public speaker and still paints in between delivering babies and encouraging her patients.

“I am passionate about the holistic care of my patients and I am ambassador of normal delivery and breastfeeding.”
