Ballito cheers on UIP’s hard work

Actions speak louder than words and the Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) has certainly risen to the challenge.

Since November last year, 32 benches, 42 signs and 52 meters of promenade railing have been repaired. A further 840 bags of litter, 290 bags of weeds and 70 cubic meters of soil were removed by the UIP teams.

All together, 4160 man hours have been put in by the teams in green, who paint, pave and sweep seven days a week from 5am until 6pm.

The UIP aims to partner with local municipalities to improve the quality of public spaces, which in turn results in job creation, more secure property values and an all round well-maintained, clean, safe area.

Thank you’s and congratulations poured onto the North Coast Courier Facebook page from locals, while the body corporates belonging to the UIP said they are proud of the results.

Ballito Estates’ Barbara Shingler said the UIP has been worth every cent so far.

“They have come to the party and people can see their money has gone to good use. Their presence was especially impressive during the December period, making sure the town and promenade was clean and safe at all times,” said Shingler.

KwaDukuza Lifeguard supervisor Bongani Xulu agreed said the UIP security on the beaches has made a huge difference.

“The security guys work well with the lifeguards and the maintenance teams’ response time is fantastic – you just need to make one call and within 30 minutes they arrive and fix the problem. Their willingness to work with different stakeholders is great to see.”

G&G Productions operations manager, Brendan Keen said working with the UIP during Rage and the Ballito New Years Eve street party last year added amazing value to both events.

“The team were helpful over the buildup, during and post Rage. We had a lot of assistance from Dieter Fittkau, who was always happy to assist with any query or concern.”

Former Umhlali SAPS acting station commander, Dieter Fittkau is now the Ballito UIP security manager and said the security team is alert and present around Ballito at all times.

“Just this Sunday morning, the UIP supervisor, Menzi Dludla, noticed a Chubb response vehicle outside a house on Jack Powell Road. He alerted the other UIP guards to be on the look out and minutes later, a guard found an person hiding in the servitude next to La Mustique. They apprehended the man, who was found in possession of stolen items. He was handed over to the SAPS after a case docket had been opened,” said Fittkau.

The UIP is encouraging members and the public to report all service delivery requests via the fault report function on the website www.ballitouip.co.za. In case of an emergency or suspicious activity, call the UIP on 086 111 1588.
