Etete residents blocked the R102 in angry protest against jobs been given to outsiders.
Using burning tyres and branches a group of angry Etete residents blocked the R102 for few hours on Thursday afternoon.
The residents were irate on two counts: jobs and speed humps.
According to Velani township community policing forum chairperson, Bongumusa Mkhize, residents were upset that jobs available at the new taxi rank being built near the Sasko bakery in Etete, has been given to people from other areas.
However, Councillor Njabulo Mbonambi said some local residents have been employed to work at the rank and were supposed to start on Thursday, but due to this dispute, they did not.
“The community is complaining about people from Shayamoya Township being employed while they are not working. We cannot prevent the employment of people from the nearby townships.” said Mbonambi.
Mkhize said the people were also complaining about the lack of speed humps on the R102, and said they had asked the department of transport for humps but that but nothing had been done.
