Baby rescued from pit latrine in Shakashead

The baby is being treated in hospital.

A newborn baby boy was found alive with his placenta and umbilical cord still attached in Shakashead near Ballito yesterday afternoon.
Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said they were called to assist after members of the community had discovered the baby’s plight and rescued him from the pit.
“As the Netcare 911 team was en-route to the scene, they met with a man that handed the baby over to the medical team. The man is believed to have found the baby in a pit toilet near the community centre.
“The baby is now in safe hands in a Netcare hospital, receiving further medical care,” he said.
