Tongaat school closes after pupils’ riot
Police hope a meeting to discuss issues will help diffuse pupils' anger.

Siphiwe High School remains closed after pupils went on a rampage breaking windows and locking up staff.
According to police, pupils were breaking windows in protest of the arrival of a new principal and were demanding a new maths teacher.
Yesterday, Umhlali SAPS spokesperson warrant officer Vinny Pillay said the pupils held teachers hostage inside the school and on Monday they locked them out the school.
“We are patrolling the Umthombisa area, Upper Tongaat today to maintain peace around the school. We hope a meeting with parents and pupils will result in a positive solution,” said Pillay.
