Ballito schoolboys shine as KZN U13 Duikers crowned national rugby champions

All four are members of the Ballito Dolphins Rugby Club.

Four future rugby stars from Ballito recently helped drive the KZN U13 Duikers South to interprovincial victory in Johannesburg.

Henry Boshoff from Curro Salt Rock, Dylan Buckley from Ashton International College Ballito and Marco Janse van Vuuren and Dougie Chennells from Umhlali Prep all played key roles at the tournament in Kempton Park, held during the school holidays from September 28 to October 3.

Local boys Marco Janse van Rensburg, Henry Boshoff, Dylan Buckley and Dougie Chennells celebrate their win.

Marco (Grade 7) and Dougie (Grade 6) are both props, while Henry (Grade 7) plays lock and Dylan (Grade 7) plays centre. All four are members of the Ballito Dolphins Rugby Club.

The Duikers South opened their campaign with a 22-14 victory over the Valke, followed by a 22-5 win against Mpumalanga. They then comfortably beat hosts the Lions 43-0 in the semi-finals.

An end-to-end final against the Bulls proved to be the match of the tournament, with the Duikers South edging their opponents 17-15 to claim their place as national champions.
