Ballito lifeguard Linda Hlophe (35), his wife (30) and child (13) were all injured in an accident at the Compensation entrance to Ballito yesterday morning.

Linda was previously in the newspaper for his rescue of a British businessman at Salt Rock beach last February.

Yesterday at around 6.45am the Hlophe family were on their way to Shakaskraal when the accident occurred at the R102 T-Junction.

Linda was lucky to escape with only a knee injury but his wife, Sthulile and daughter, Nosisa are both still in hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

KwaDukuza lifeguard supervisor Bongani Xulu said he was on his way to collect his colleague, as he is to be discharged this morning.

“Myself and all the lifeguards and our heads of department at the municipality support Linda and his family and wish them a full recovery,” said Xulu.
