UPDATE: North Coast cop shot dead
Two hospitals could reportedly not accept the patient because neither had a neurosurgeon available.
The police officer from Sundumbili SAPS who was shot on Sunday morning, died later that afternoon.
“Two men attacked Warrant Officer Bongani Cele (48) from behind, snatched his service pistol and shot him in the back,” said Major Thulani Zwane, KZN SAPS spokesperson.
From the back, the bullet reportedly went right through the officer’s abdomen and exited out the front.
Neither Alberlito, nor Umhlanga hospitals had a neurosurgeon available at the time and Cele had to be rushed a few kilometres further to Ethekwini Hospital where he later died.
