Prepare for toll fee increases

Motorists travelling on all national toll routes in South Africa will pay more after the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral),  increased tariffs on March 1.

The toll tariff adjustments for 2016/17 have been announced and implemented.

The new toll fees have been published in the government gazette and are adjustments which are made according to the consumer price index measures for the past 12 months.

Sanral said  from its perspective this is an adjustment, not an increase.

The cost of a single trip in a light motor vehicle (Class 1) from Empangeni to Durban is now R60 (R9.50 at Tongaat, R11.50 at Mvoti and R39 at Mtunzini), an increase of R3 over last year.

Heavy duty (Class 4) drivers pay R236 (R38 at Tongaat, R64 at Mvoti and R134 at Mtunzini) for the same trip compared to R226 last year.

The south ramp at Mtunzini has increased to R32.50 while the north ramp has been set at R7 for light vehicles.

The Dokodweni ramp costs R16.50 and at Mandeni the toll remains at R6.50.

Motorists turning off at Tongaat will pay R5 at both ramps.

At Mtunzini, heavy vehicles will pay R106 and R28 at the south and north ramps respectively and R52 at Dokodweni.

The Mariannhill toll between Durban and Pietermaritzburg has been increased to R10 for light vehicles and R35 for heavy-duty vehicles.

The toll at the south ramp at King Shaka Airport remains at R5 for light vehicles, but increases to R21 for the heavy vehicles.
