Local government election date announced

Zuma encouraged all South Africans who were eligible to vote‚ in particular the youth‚ to register for the local elections this weekend.

The local government elections will be held on Wednesday August 3, President Jacob Zuma announced today.

He said the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs would follow the necessary legal procedure to proclaim the date and undertake any other requirements.

“We urge all those who are eligible to vote to register and those who have not checked their names to do so on Saturday and Sunday this weekend so that together we continue to re-affirm and deepen our democracy‚” Zuma said.
