Wanted armed robbery suspects arrested in Ndwedwe
It is believed the recovered firearm, a Norince 9mm pistol, was used to commit an armed robbery earlier this month.
Two men will soon appear in the Ndwedwe Magistrate’s Court for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a knife suspected to have been used in a robbery.
Umhlali K9, Phoenix Tactical Response Team and Provincial communication officials, assisted by other units, conducted a crime intelligence driven operation at Ogunjini area, Ndwedwe in the early hours this morning tracing two wanted suspects for armed robbery.
The first man was arrested at his homestead after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
It is believed that the recovered firearm was used during an armed robbery in the Ndwedwe area.
The second man was also arrested for being in possession of a knife suspected to have been used in a robbery and a cellphone suspected to have been stolen.
The recovered firearm, a Norince 9mm pistol, will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crime in the province.
An armed robbery took place at Ntaphuka area, Ndwedwe on April 2 at about 6pm when a 24-year-old victim was threatened and robbed of his belongings, including a cellphone, by two men; one wielding a knife and the other a firearm.
A case of armed robbery was opened at Ndwedwe police station.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the officers for making sure that those involved in crime are brought to book.
“I appeal to the community to work closely with the police by providing valuable information about criminals who are wanted for crimes in the province,” she said.
