Delay in RDP housing raises the ire of Etete residents

The R102 is closed from Etete to the Umfolozi FET College in Groutville.

The residents of Etete told Courier journalist, Siboniso Dlamini that they are protesting because the construction of the RDP houses promised was meant to start in April.

To date, there has been no sign of any building and no communication about the reason for the delay.

“Even our ward councillor (ward 20) is avoiding us,” said the residents.

The R102 is closed from Etete to the Umfolozi FET College in Groutville.

Burning tyres, a large tree, railings and boulders have been used to barricad the road.

Some residents are armed with spears and knobkieries.

There is a large group of protesters at the Farmers Hill turn-off.

No-one is being permitted to enter or leave Etete so residents not involved in the protest are unable to get to work.
