Mayor promises Etete houses

Mayor Ricardo Methembu said the RDP housing construction in Etete will begin on May 23.

KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu has promised the construction of the Etete RDP houses will begin on May 23.

Addressing the Etete protesters this morning he said the delay had been caused by Ilembe’s water shortage.

“The people have accepted the reason for the delay and said they will wait for May 23. If construction does not start, they will protest again,” said Courier journalist on site, Sboniso Dlamini.

Dlamini said the people are dispersing and returning home.

However, the R102 is still closed.

KwaDukuza Traffic Chief: Traffic Services, Johnny Moodley said it will take time to clear the road of trees, boulders and burnt tyres.

“I cannot say exactly when the R102 will be opened as there is a mess to clear in five or six places,” he said.
