Nkobongo women protest councillor nominations

About 300 Nkobongo people are protesting the ANC councillor nominations.

Protest action in Nkobongo began at 4am this morning when protesters burnt tyres and barracaded the R102.

However, Public Order Police dispersed the crowd and the R102 is open according to Umhlali SAPS spokesman, Vinny Pillay.

“The protest continues inside Nkobongo and no taxis or vehicles can enter or leave the township. But people are being allowed to leave on foot to get to work,” said Pillay.

“There are about 300 protesters, most of them women. They are unhappy about ANC councillors nominated.”
