National recognition for Stanger docs

Hard work, dedication and passion for their profession proved to pay out for Stanger hospital‘s doctors, Bavani Naicker and Jay Matthew when they respectively scooped national awards for an oral and poster presentation at the International Conference on Emergency Medicine held at the Cape Town Convention centre on April 21.
The convention was the first to be held in the country and the emergency unit doctors were pleased to have received recognition for their work.
Dr Bavani Naicker won the award for the best oral presentation on the topic profiling parasuicidial patients and Dr Jay Matthew won the best poster presentation award for the his spectrum of drowning topic.
Dr Naicker said, “I have been practicing for ten years and this has been my first award. Although I presented, I did not expect to win.”
Head of the emergency department, Dr Seelan Pillay was responsible for encouraging both doctors to present at the convention.
