Shakaskraal protesters stone cars

Shakaskraal protesters barricaded Glendale Road early this morning.

Shakaskraal protesters have closed the Glendale Road and are stoning passing cars.

Umhlali SAPS spokesman, Vinny Pillay said protests in Shakaskraal began at 5am this morning when about 100 people closed the roads with burning tyres, trees and debris.

“The protesters have closed the roads in Shakaskraal including Glendale Road. They are also stoning cars but special order police are on their way to contain the situation.

“We know they are protesting about unemployment but we still have to find out their other grievances.”

Pillay said the Shayamoya residents, who began protesting yesterday, are continuing today and closing the township’s main access road.

He said the R102 is open and motorists are welcome to contact him to check if roads are open or not.
