Three men arrested for making new “jelly babies” drug

Parents should be on high alert after the discovery of a drug designed to look like a sweet in Umhlathuzana.

A new drug called “jelly babies”, has been intercepted by Durban police, presumably on its way to be distributed to school children.

The Durban Flying Squad and Organised Crime at Durban Central, acting on information of drug possession, swooped on a venue in Hawk Street, Umhlatuzana in Chatsworth on Friday, May 20.

The police discovered a drug factory producing the “jelly babies” and made three arrests.

“Three men aged between 27 and 39 were arrested for possession of drugs.

“The laptop and gas guns being used were also recovered from the men who will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court soon,” said South African Police Service corporate communication’s Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala.

Whether this drug has been sold to any school children is being investigated.

The drug has also been taken to lab for analysis as its composition is not yet known.
