Boost for Tongaat Welfare

"Many families were assisted in terms of crises relief food hampers and the funds are continuously being channelled to keep our homework and computer centres functional," said Moodley.

Chairman of the Sibaya Community Trust, Tristan Kaatze announced they have spent R16 million on health, welfare, education and capacity building, during their 2015 financial year.

He was speaking at the Sibaya Casino Imbizo Room, where the trust was acknowledging it’s investments in infrastructure projects in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, May 20.

One of the beneficiaries of the trust is the KwaDukuza and Tongaat Child Welfare.

Social work manager, Jo Moodley of the Tongaat Child welfare expressed her gratitude to the Trust.

Moodley said in March 2015, Vivian Reddy and his wife, Sorisha Naidoo came to their 25th Annual Charity Fair.

Reddy pledged a sponsorship of R1 000 000 on behalf of the trust to be paid to the welfare. The first tranche of R300 000 has already been paid to the welfare with the remainder being spread over the next two years.

“The funds already received have been utilised to treat 350 of our foster care children to a day of excitement, games, fun and educational activities at our annual celebrate the child programme which was held in December. Many families were assisted in terms of crises relief food hampers and the funds are continuously being channelled to keep our homework and computer centres functional,” said Moodley.

The Trust is also building the Chief Albert Luthuli Skills Centre in KwaDukuza and Kaatze said through their Matric Academic Intervention initiative projects, pupils in the Ilembe region will be better prepared for finals.

“We also encourage pupils to perform better by giving them university bursaries, laptops and cellphones. Teachers have been promised bonuses if the pupils do well,” said Kaatze.
