Out with the old, in with the new
The party is to put forward as its candidate, Foxhill resident, Tammy Colley.
In a shock move, the Democratic Alliance has shown Ballito councillor Colin Marsh the red card.
“I have been kicked out,” said the disgruntled Marsh this week.
After representing Ballito’s Ward Six for the Democratic Alliance for 15 years in KwaDukuza local government, councillor Colin Marsh will not stand as a candidate for the upcoming municipal elections.
“The DA has issued me with a letter to say I may not to stand as a DA candidate in the 2016 elections. This came as a great shock to me, my family and colleagues.”
Instead the party is to put forward as its candidate, Foxhill resident Tammy Colley, the daughter of former ward 22 councillor, Ann McDonnell, who is now serving in the provincial legislature.
Colley, 42, said she was looking forward to the new challenge.
“I am a newbie, but I have helped my mom over the years, so I have an idea of what is going on and how much work goes into being an active councillor,” said Colley.
“I think our community needs to see the DA is growing. We need to involve young people, get them to attend house meetings and have interesting people telling them what is going on – people who are in the know.”
Seaward Estate resident, Tommy du Toit, will be the DA candidate in two wards – the new Ward 21 (everything south of the P445) and Ward 4 (Shaka’s Head).
“I am feeling positive about the elections. While working and putting up boards around Shaka’s Head, I have had positive reports from the people. It sounds like half of Driefontein will be voting DA, so I am quite confident that the DA will win Ward 21,” said Du Toit.
Councillor Malcolm Hubner will remain the candidate for Ward 22, which he won in 2012.
It is not known at this stage who Du Toit, Hubner and Colley will be facing in the August 3 local government elections, as none of the other parties have yet announced their candidate lists.
