WATCH: Ballito man chases down criminals

Get different people to do business banking and don't follow the same routines and routes because criminals may be watching you.

A large amount of cash drawn at a bank was nearly stolen from a Ballito resident’s car while he was speaking to the Specialised Rescue staff at Power Locksmiths at The Quarter.

It was the observant Specialised Rescue’s Quinton Power who realised their customer had been followed by criminals observing him draw money at the bank. The car that had appeared soon after the customer, was parked in such a way as to block the view from the office to the parking area, that raised Power’s suspicions.

“I looked up and  I saw one guy get out, go toward’s the customer’s car and try and force the door open,” said Power.

“We both ran out to stop him. I ran after the guy who was running away from the car when he jumped into a second car. I tried to block this car, which then tried to run me over, so I purposely jumped on the bonnet to cause a dent which could later be identified, even if they changed the number plates.

“I sped after them on foot and ran as far as the intersection near Toyota. Another car, having witnessed my pursuit, gave me a lift and we followed the crooks who nearly collided with another vehicle in their haste to get away.

“We eventually lost them due to traffic blocking the road.”

Powers warns people that their banking activities are being watched and to be alert.

“Don’t use the same route to and from the banks and most importantly, get different people to do the banking.

“Today is month end, so criminals expect people to make big drawings.

“Also be alert for cars parked in obscure places to block parking lot activity from being seen from offices and shops.”
