Crawford College North Coast pupil killed, 2 others injured

A tragic accident takes the life of a Crawford North Coast grade 10 pupil.

A Crawford College North Coast pupil died in a a car accident in Sandile Thusi Road (Argyle Road), Durban yesterday. The school postponed examinations scheduled for today to hold a special assembly this morning.

The passenger who died was grade 10 student Uzair Manjra. The driver, PLG Ballito Academy pupil (18), who has not been identified, is in a critical condition in St Augustine’s Hospital, Durban. The third passenger, Crawford grade 11 student Shaariq Jooseb, has concussion and a broken leg. The pupils were travelling from school at about noon yesterday when their car crashed into another car on the M4 near Argyle Road.

According to Athlenda Mathe, media liaison officer for Netcare 911, a Hyundai H1 collided with a Renault Clio.

“When paramedics arrived they found the two occupants of the Hyundai H1 had sustained moderate injuries. In the Renault Clio, the driver and the front seat passenger were both trapped and paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free them from the wreckage.

“Unfortunately, the front seat passenger succumbed to his injuries on-scene while the back seat passenger, who was was ejected from the vehicle, is in a critical condition,” she said.
