The Ghost House could not be saved

The ghost house had been standing empty for more than 20 years.

The last memory the Naidu family had left of their grandfather, Gurusamy Veerasamy Naidu, was demolished on Thursday as demanded by the Ethekwini Council.

The Ghost House of Seatides along the M4, next to Beach Bums was built by Naidu in 1926 and his grandson, Saantha Naidu, said it was sad to see it go.

“We had until Friday to demolish the house, as per a letter I received from Council, because it was not safe for people to be around anymore,” said Naidu, who himself became a property tycoon and owns impressive buildings such as the Coastlands hotels and resorts, which are part of the Saanta Naidu Group.

“There was no way of saving the house any longer. The property has been in our family for over 100 years. It was a priceless family treasure.”

He said they are currently looking at potential development ideas for the property, but have not decided on anything yet.
