Week 6 – Your muscles are thirsty!
North Coast Courier News Editor Lesley Naudé and Sales Rep Surekha Brijlall are on an eight week ‘Get Firmer’ challenge at The Firm Slimming and Health Clinic Ballito, based at Simbithi Office Park.

One of Sarah Vernon’s (owner of The Firm Ballito) mantra’s is drink water.
Taped to every available surface are reminders to drink your daily eight glasses of water.
Each client has their own marked water bottle and Sarah never fails to ask if you are drinking enough.
I agree that water is healthy and I have always been an avid aqua drinking, but the huge emphasis placed on it gave me pause for thought.
So I decided to research it further. What I found was pretty amazing!
Firstly I learnt that by the time you experience the sensation of the thirst, you are already dehydrated.
So go fill up you glass, or a jug, before you read any further.
Apparently water is one of the most important anabolic nutrients you can ingest!
According to an article at Bodybuilding.com, water is more important for building muscle than protein.
A number of research studies also showed that those who exercised while dehydrated performed significantly lower then while hydrated.
So that settles it. Drink more water.
P.s If you do not enjoy the taste of water try adding a slice of lemon and a sprig of rosemary.

I am not going to lie to you and say it is easy, like anything worth achieving it is trying at times, but that only makes the end result even more worth it!
I eat when I am stressed and I was never blessed with a fast metabolism, I guess that’s pretty common, so if I can try to achieve my goal and lose some weight, then so can you.
These pointers helped me thus far and hopefully they can help you on yours:
• The Firm is not magical – you can’t just attend your sessions and expect to lose weight.
The team will provide you with the tools which will assist you in the weight loss process, but remember you will only get out, what you put in.
• If you fall off the wagon, don’t despair and surrender – you are human and it happens, just start again the next day.
• Be kind to yourself. It didn’t take a month to gain all the weight so it won’t take a month to lose it all either.
• No chocolate or glass of wine will give you that same “feel good feeling” that losing yet another kilogram does.
• Remain focused; keep your eye on the goal you have set for yourself and remember you can do anything you put your mind to!
• Most importantly, do this for you and not for anyone else.
